This is the seventh year of the implementation of the Spanish program in Cheyenne Mountain School District.  Junior high and high school teachers are noticing the impact elementary Spanish makes in the preparation of students who choose to continue studying Spanish at the junior high and high school level. The elementary Spanish program builds students' vocabulary base and exposes them to basic grammar concepts.  It gives them a strong foundation from which to work if they elect to take a foreign language class at a later time.

Our cultural focus for the month of October will be “Dia de los Muertos”, or the Day of the Dead. This holiday is celebrated mainly in Mexico. It focuses on gatherings of family and friends to honor and remember friends and relatives who have passed away.  Students will learn about the traditions of this holiday and remember special people in their own lives who have passed away.
