Safety and Emergency Procedures

Following are Safety and Emergency procedures for Broadmoor Elementary:

Lock Down
- Announcement made over the PA - All perimeter doors are locked, no one comes in, no one goes out. Classroom teaching continues as normal. Building Manager posted at front entry. Announcement will be made when the lockdown has ended. A lock down would be initiated if there was a dangerous situation in the vicinity of the school that could affect us.  Practiced 2 x per school year.

Tornado Drill - Announcement made over the PA System - Classroom teachers take students into enclosed hallways away from doors and windows - students sit with backs to wall, knees up, heads down and arms/hands covering heads until it is safe to move.  Practiced 2 x per school year.

Shelter In Place - Announcement made over the PA - Like a lock down - all perimeter doors and windows are secured. BUT - classrooms are also secured. All classroom doors and windows will be closed and locked to prevent entry.   Teaching stops. Shelter In Place would happen if we had someone dangerous in the building. Announcement will be made to end the Shelter In Place.  Practiced 2 x per school year.

Fire Drill - Fire alarms are sounded.  Teachers take children to designated safety area away from building.  Designated staff members check for students in bathrooms, etc. and escort them to classes outside.  Class rosters are taken with teachers to check and make sure that all students are accounted for.  Practiced 1 x per month.

Parents -- You might want to talk at home about safety, and review the above procedures. It's always good to have a home plan.
