Extracurricular Activities

Cheyenne Creek Conservation Club has been learning how to environmentally monitor Cheyenne Creek, which flows behind our school. This club is open to fifth and sixth grade students who meet twice a month to do creek water testing, flow tests, water quality testing, and study the Riparian habitat.  Click here for more details.

Sports Activities at Cañon include sports for fifth and sixth grade. Offered to our students are intramural boys handball, volleyball, and basketball. Everyone gets to participate. Our teams play teams from other schools in School District #12.

CNN Cañon Network News
Every Monday morning CNN, our school news, broadcasts to all classrooms. CNN informs Cañon students of lunch menus, birthdays, weather, sports, trivia questions, class projects, and special announcements. These news broadcasts are produced and presented by Cañon's fifth and sixth graders. To be eligible to be a newscaster, students fill out an application stating why they are interested in doing the school news. Those who are not interested in being a newscaster can help with the script writing, camera work, or produce the weekly broadcast.

Band
Band is offered to all fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students. Concerts are presented throughout the year for both beginning and advanced bands. Small group instruction is provided by our band instructor, Mr. Flitter.

Cañon Kids Make A Difference
Every year each class participates in a variety of community service projects.

Student Council
Twice a year, the student body at Cañon elects a student council president, vice- president, secretary, and treasurer. Candidates campaign for office by giving speeches and making posters. Representatives are elected from all first through sixth grade classrooms.

Peer Mediators
Cañon Peer Mediator team is a group of 30 trained students who volunteer their recess and free time one day per week to work in pairs to mediate student conflicts.
