Students in P.E. have just completed the Jump Rope and Hoops for Heart program. Students spent the day jumping rope, playing basketball, and learning to make healthy lifestyle choices that will impact the rest of their life.  If your child raised money please have them return their packet during the week of March 4th.

Upcoming Event: Spring Presidential Fitness Test
In P.E. students will be working hard on completing the President's Physical Fitness Test.  This fitness test measures muscle endurance, muscle strength, flexibility, cardiovascular endurance, and agility.  The five tests that measure these components of health are sit ups, pull ups, the sit and reach test, the mile run, and the shuttle run. Students can earn one of three different awards for completing the tests.  The Presidential Physical Fitness Award is for students who score in at least the 85th percentile nationally in all 5 events.  The National Fitness Fitness Award is for students who score in at least the 50th percentile nationally in all 5 events.  The Participant Physical Fitness Award is for students who attempt all 5 events but one or more of their scores falls below the 50th percentile.

We will complete the test once in the fall and once again in the spring.  We will be working hard in class to try and improve our scores in all 5 events by the time we take it again in the spring.  Any extra exercise that is done outside of class will also benefit their scores greatly.  One of the goals of P.E. at Cheyenne Mountain Elementary is to teach students that life long fitness is not an easy task and that it requires hard work and effort to maintain and/or improve their level of fitness.  In class we talk about how it does not matter what your score is right now but rather how can you work to improve your score.  Not matter what your level of fitness may be there is always room for improvement. So I challenge both students and parents to work together to improve their fitness levels.  Exercising is a lot easier to do when you can do it with the help of someone motivating you.  So stop reading this and get out there and exercise!
