First Grade
Homework
*Please remember to complete the 'Book-It' forms which were sent home at the beginning of the month. Every time your child reads for 15 minutes you may complete a slice of pizza on the form. When all the slices are completed, please return the form to me and I will reward your child with a free individual pizza coupon which can be redeemed at any Pizza Hut.
*When your child comes home with any unfinished work or work which needs correcting, please make sure it is completed. It helps to reinforce the skills we are learning in the classroom. These papers may be returned for me to check.
Homework will be given every night except for the weekends.
The homework assignments reinforce skills taught in the class and inform parents of what we are teaching. Please help your child complete and/or correct any work he or she brings home. The work does not need to be returned to school if it meets your expectations. First graders are expected to read with a parent 15 minutes a night four times a week Spelling homework begins in the middle of September. We will add dictation sentences to the spelling list at the beginning of the second semester. As the year goes on, please practice addition and subtraction facts to eighteen.
First graders will complete two projects during the year for Young Author's Night. Instructions and packets will be sent home to be completed with help from the parents. A final copy will be done in the classroom. Ample time will be given to complete these projects.
