April & May
1st Grade News
Dear Parents,
This year is absolutely flying by. It is hard to believe that we only have eight more weeks of school. The children have been working hard on their poems for Young Author’s Night. It will be a wonderful opportunity to come and visit school and see their hard work. The children will show off their work the same day. We hope that you will be able to attend. This will be a special occasion to see what talented poets and illustrators the children have become. They are very proud of themselves and can’t wait to show off their talents.
1. Technology: We continue to work in the computer lab weekly to build our technology skills. We will be working on projects using the word processor, Kidpics, internet sites, and various educational games such as ‘Graph Club’.
2. Clothing: Spring has sprung. The weather in Colorado is unpredictable. It may start out nice and mild but turn chilly unexpectedly. We understand that children never want to wear a coat. Please try to persuade your child to at least wear a light coat or sweater in the morning, in case the weather changes through the day. Missing a cozy mitten? Remember to check the lost and found closet at the North entrance where the students come into the building in the mornings. Many children are still having difficulty zipping their own coats and tying their shoes, please work on these at home.
3. Volunteers: Thank you to all of our dedicated volunteers. The children are always thrilled to work with someone different. Ms Harmon and Mrs. Gill get a little boring from time to time and the children enjoy the change. It is especially rewarding to your own child to spend extra quality time.
4. Young Author’s Night: Mark your calendars! Young Author’s Night is April 17th. There will be more details to follow. Please make sure you come and visit your child’s classroom and read all the amazing poems.
5. Parent Teacher Conferences: Conferences are scheduled for Thursday, April 24th and Friday, April 25th. We are looking forward to meeting with you and discussing your child’s progress so far in the first grade. You will be receiving a copy of your scheduled conference in your child’s Thursday folder at a later date. Please sign and return the bottom section indicating that you are able to attend at that time.
6, Art in a Suitcase: Our final lesson will be on April 29th. We would like to say a BIG thank you to all the wonderful parent volunteers who made this program possible.
7. K-2 Play Day: This fun filled day is scheduled sometime in May (date to be announced). Please make sure that your child has tennis shoes on that day. More information will be provided when it is closer to Play Day.
8. End of the Year Party: We will have an end of the year party. Look for more information about this fun day in the future.
