Message from the Principal
Dr. John Weishaar

1710_32523_1.jpgGreetings from the Principal’s Desk,

I want to express my deepest appreciation to the Cheyenne Mountain High School Community for affording me the opportunity to serve as your principal. I can honestly say that Cheyenne Mountain High School is a school of excellence and is deeply steeped in tradition and accomplishment. These accolades do not simply occur by random chance. This is a result of sound leadership, instructional excellence, student commitment, parent support, and a community believing in a common purpose. I believe the sustainability of these measures of success is the ongoing commitment of all stakeholders to the mission of providing a world-class educational experience for each student. I invite each parent and community member to be collectively involved with the school in the efforts to “reach beyond our grasp” and to provide a truly exemplary experience in each endeavor this year.

I would like to extend my deepest appreciation to Mr. Paul Martin for his extraordinary leadership of Cheyenne Mountain High School for the past fourteen years. He and his staff have provided a wealth of guidance to me in this transition period. And, I fully intend to continue drawing from his knowledge and perspectives in the months to come. I am sure that you will join me in saying, “Job well done, enjoy your retirement, and don’t be a stranger. You are an Indian for life.”

An anonymous author once wrote that on a tombstone there are two dates engraved in the granite. One records the date of a person’s first breath and the other – the date of the last. But, the true measure of that person’s life is recorded in the dash in between. What we do with the time we have is the most important. I believe that a primary responsibility here at CMHS is to assist in every way possible to improve the life of every student so that their dash will be enriched, nurtured, and supported as they progress through the continuum of life. From what I have observed to this point, the Cheyenne Mountain community is deeply dedicated to this endeavor. Echoing the words of Mr. Paul Martin, “the national reputation for excellence is attributed to shared values…” Education is an ongoing, shared responsibility of our entire community. Once again, I invite you to be part of our school. With your partnership, we can design “better days through better ways” – together.

Since being hired I have been asked to share some initial goals for this school year. The fine details of the processes to attain these goals are in development, but I would like to share the goal frameworks I have recorded to this point.

Provide a quality high school experience for EACH student throughout their secondary career while at CMHS.
Develop and maintain a safe environment for all members of CMHS community both emotionally and physically.
Continue the rich tradition of rigorous academic and athletic/extracurricular programs.
Provide support for teachers to deliver exemplary instruction.
Participate with the parents and entire learning community to collectively plan for continuous improvement.
Support student achievement in such a manner that encourages them to reach beyond their grasp.
Be honest, genuine, and enjoy the moment while planning for the future.

Please know that you are always welcome to contact me. Our schedules may not mesh on the spot, but your input is important so every effort will be made to accommodate. Once again, thank you for the opportunity to serve.

On Purpose,

Dr. John Weishaar
Principal
