Delays and Closures

If schools will be closed or delayed due to severe weather, this information will be broadcast on local radio stations, and will also be posted on the FlashAlert website. The information from the FlashAlert website should be shown below.  Additionally, if you would like to receive automatic notifications of emergency messages directly from FlashAlert via e-mail, and/or via text messaging to your cell phone, you can subscribe to receive these notifications at no cost by providing your e-mail address and creating an account using the form below:

Parents may use their own judgment when weather conditions are severe. If you intend to keep your child home, please notify the school office. Ultimately, the decision on whether to send a child to school on inclement weather days always rests with parents. This is an important option for parents to keep in mind throughout the entire winter because, inevitably, there will be times when the roads in the majority of the District are safe for travel, but a specific street or route may not be. In this case, all parents need to do is communicate to their school the reason for their child's absence, and no absence is even recorded.

This same attendance exception holds true throughout the day during inclement weather as well. Except under the most extreme circumstances, school will not dismissed early once we have begun because we know from previous experience that the disruption and difficulty this causes for families is extreme. However, if during a school day the weather deteriorates to the point that parents feel it is best to pick up their son or daughter from school, then we encourage them to do so.

Sign Up for Automatic Alerts!
Cheyenne Mountain School District uses an Internet-based system called "FlashAlert " for notifying the news media of changes in school schedules, such as weather-related delays and closures, etc.

Message delivery from the FlashAlert system has now been extended directly to the public. You are now able to self-register and manage up to three home or office email and/or cell phone text message addresses - (and now even your Twitter address, too) - and receive emergency information just minutes after we post it, at no cost to you!

Note that these alerts come directly from the FlashAlert service, so you need to specifically subscribe to the FlashAlert service and create an account in order to receive the alerts. To get started, just click on the link below, and begin the subscription process by filling in your email address and clicking the "Subscribe" button.
