About Our School

Gold Camp Elementary School opened its doors to students for the first time in August of 1997. It is situated in the foothills of southwest Colorado Springs and is the sixth, and most likely final, elementary school to be built in the Cheyenne Mountain School District. It is located in the northern part of the district in an area known as Skyway.

General Information
Our school year typically runs from late August through late May.
The school day is from 8 AM to 3 PM
Our classrooms are self-contained.
Our present enrollment is approximately 324 children, with a teacher-student ratio of about 1-25.
There is less than 3% turnover in the student population and 0% turnover rate for teachers during the school year.
We presently have 2 AM (3 yr. olds) and PM (4 yr. olds) preschools, two of grades K-6.
There is some ability grouping in certain subjects in grades 4-6 .
We have an active Parent Teacher Organization.
Parent volunteers are a vital part of our school and can be found daily in classrooms and other parts of our school.
Our staff includes part-time art, music, band, ESL, and speech teachers as well as a health aide. We also have a full-time physical and special education teachers, media specialist, learning specialist, Spanish teacher and counselor.
There is no bussing in District 12 except for special needs children.
State-wide exams are given in grades 3-6.
The Gold Camp Elementary School reading program is based on both phonics and whole language.
A discipline plan is in place in accordance with Colorado state law.
