General Information
Miss Molly's preschool class at Gold Camp follows the Creative Curriculum model while also incorporating many different themes throughout the year. The preschool environment is always full of busy children having fun with their friends. Each month we focus on a different color and many different themes are incorporated throughout the year. We also focus on a new letter every week and the preschoolers do various activities that relate to that letter including art projects and learning sign language. Every day the students practice their skills of shape, number and color recognition as well as their counting and graphing skills. Preschoolers also are given the opportunity to practice writing their names each week. There is never a dull moment in Miss Molly's class!
The classroom environment is structured into several different centers with engaging activities. There is a dramatic play center which allows students to use their imagination and take on different roles. The children love pretending to be an airline pilot or a mom shopping for groceries. Our math center includes activities that focus on colors, shapes, counting skills, number recognition and patterns. In the art center, children explore with paint, color, practice their cutting skills and make different art projects. In the classroom library, students are given the opportunity to explore books and share with their teachers and peers. Within our class library, we also have a listening center that allows children to read books while listening to the story on tape. Our block center includes large wooden blocks with interactive
toys that relate to our current theme. Preschoolers also have lots of opportunities to explore with puzzles and the other many manipulatives that are set up around the room.
Homework
Homework is sent home every Monday and Wednesday that we have school. Homework Awards will also be sent home periodically for those students who complete and return their assignments.
Assessment
Your child will be informally and formally assessed throughout the year to keep track of his progress. I will keep you informed of your child's growth on a regular basis and we will discuss these assessments in more detail at our parent/teacher conferences in October and April. Please know you are more than welcome to come in and discuss any questions or concerns you many have at ANY time. If you would like to come in, please call or e-mail me to schedule an appointment!
