•Novel Analysis: The technique of reading for deeper understanding of a narrative text using self-questioning strategies.

                1.  Balanced literacy program including independent reading
                     and guided reading
                2.  "Time for Kids" - weekly news magazine
                3.  Read 20-30 minutes each evening and record on calendar
                4.  Accelerated Reader

Computer Skills:
        1.  Keyboarding
        2.  Word processing
        3.  Creation of multimedia presentations
        4.  Tutorials and games that teach

Spelling:       Text:  Spelling Connections - Zaner-Bloser
                1.  List of 20 words per week with weekly test
                2.  Focus on spelling accuracy in all written  work


Language Arts:  
                1.  Six Trait Writing  (ideas, organization, voice, word                                                              choice, sentence fluency, conventions)
                2.  Writing Styles:  narrative, expository, persuasive,                                                               compare and contrast, descriptive
