General Information
MUSIC IN THE VALLEY
Upon entering the 4th grade at Pinon Valley Elementary School, students have the exciting opportunity to become involved with the Cheyenne Mountain School District 12’s distinguished Band program. At PVE our Bands meet daily during the school day, as well as, once a week for sectionals.
Why join Band?
Being a part of Band integrates core subjects such as math, science, languages, and social studies while teaching discipline, commitment and teamwork. It requires students to exercise multiple, simultaneous mental and physical skills to perform a task. And… they build friendships and have fun!
Commitment Outside of School
Individual practice for self-improvement, especially at the beginning stages, is a vital ingredient in the success rate for each student, as well as, for the band. 20 minutes of practice, 4 days a week is encouraged. Private lessons are recommended, but not required. All band members are expected to participate in the 2 scheduled Band performances during the school year (Winter Concert, Spring Concert).
Financial Aspects
There is no charge for joining band because the cost of renting or buying an instrument falls on the student and their family. Depending upon the instrument, rental fees will cost $15 - $40 a month. A limited number of low brass instruments (tuba, baritone, and Fr. Horn) are available through District 12 for a minimal yearly maintenance fee.
