A little bit about Mrs. Miller
Hello! I have recently relocated back to Colorado Springs this summer from Durango in order to be closer to family and civilization. Quite a few years ago we lived north of town so we are thrilled to be able to come back to the Pikes Peak region. After moving around the country due to my husband's Air Force career, we are really excited to be settling down. My children are happy with the thought of not having to move once again. My children also attend school in this district which will allow me to be fully involved as a parent at the elementary and high school level.
Speaking of children, I have three of them so I can understand the busy schedules and different learning abilities. One thing that I hope to instill in your children is that I do recognize there are different learning abilities and learning styles. My goal is to find what works for your child just as I have with my own children so that all students can feel success, no matter how small or big.
Currently I am in the process of completing my masters in Reading and Literacy. This offers me the opportunity to be actively engaged with other highly driven life long learners. Through this process, I have gained a tremendous appreciation for the passion I have to help all students learn to read. After all, learning how to read and understand what they have read will allow for a greater understanding of all curriculum. Reading goes far beyond just being able to read the words but towards fully understanding what has been read and being able to think at a higher level. I will complete my masters program next summer and be qualified to teach at all grade levels to include high school.
General Information
My role as a Literacy Resource Teacher is to assist struggling readers in small groups. By keeping the group small I will be able to work closely with them and immediately recognize an area which may need reviewing or additional reinforcement. My instruction will be through direct instruction that has been research-based and proven effective. Direct instruction is following a set procedure of what is said and done. This allows for consistency and order for how and what should be taught. As a Literacy Resource Teacher I provide supplemental instruction which is in additional to the reading program already being done in class. Students have been selected for my program through teacher recommendation, formal and informal testing, and work completed in class.
Grades
A progress report will be sent home quarterly with the child's regular report card. All work and observations will be shared with the regular classroom teacher on a regular basis as well as deemed necessary. Their grade with with me could be incorporated into the student's classroom report card.
