Preschool!
NOVEMBER 2008
Hi Again! Another great month in preschool! We had fun with the letters E through I, including lots of snacks starting with those letters, and various letter-specific classroom activities. We also spent time on ovals and hearts, numbers 0-10, green, orange, and brown, fire safety, fall, and pumpkins. We enjoyed a visit from a real firefighter, and went on an exciting field trip to Starsmore Discovery Center. We are having a great time as we learn - thanks for sharing your wonderful children with us!
Play Time! Outside play time is very important for our preschoolers. We play outside soon after school starts, so please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather (it’s getting to be hats and mittens time!), and apply sunscreen if you wish prior to bringing your child to school.
Thank You! Thanks for the great participation in parent-teacher conferences. Also, a huge thanks to our parents who helped with the fall parties. Many of you were able to attend and we are so grateful for you assistance during the party. A special thanks to the moms who helped coordinate the parties, making sure treats, crafts, etc. were planned for the children!!
Family Pictures: Holidays are approaching and we’ll be emphasizing families. Please provide a picture of your family for your child to write about and share, no later than November 13th. We’ll laminate these family pages, have the children share them with their classmates, and the put them on a “family wall” in our classroom. Thanks!

Puppets, Dress-up, and Writing Center: It appears our box of hand puppets disappeared over the summer, and we do like to occasionally put out puppets and our puppet theater for the children. If you have any unused hand puppets lying around, please consider donating them to our classroom. Any unused costumes/dress-up clothes are also always welcome for our dress-up area. Also, we have a writing center the children play at, pretending to write letters, address envelopes, etc. If you have any stickers, envelopes, greeting cards, paper, stationary, post cards and the like you are not going to use, we would love to put it in the writing center for the children. Thanks!
Themes/Songs and Finger Plays: We use LOTS of songs and finger plays in preschool. We want you to be able to enjoy some of these activities at home with your child if you like, so we attached a brief sheet including a few of these for the month of November. Enjoy!

I’M A LITTLE TURKEY
(sung to tune of “I’m A Little Teapot”)
I’m a little turkey,
My name is Ted.
Here are my feathers,
(hold up fingers on one hand)
And here is my head.
(make fist with other hand and place by “feathers”)
Gobble, gobble, gobble,
Is what I say.
Quick now run,
It’s Thanksgiving day!
ALBUQUERQUE TURKEY
(sung to the tune of “My Darlin Clementine”)
Albuquerque is a turkey,
And he’s feathered and he’s fine,
And he wobbles and he gobbles,
And he’s absolutely mine!
He’s the best pet you can get yet,
Better than a dog or cat.
He’s my Albuquerque turkey,
And I’m awfully proud of that!
And my Albuquerque turkey
Is so happy in his bed,
Cause for our Thanksgiving dinner,
We have spaghetti instead!
JACK IN A BOX
(during “J” week)
If I were a Jack in a box,
I’d make myself very small.
I’d be shut tight inside my box,
You couldn’t see me at all!
(make self small by crouching down)
Until someone turns the crank.
The music will play, then stop.
The top will fly open
And out I will pop!
(jump up and raise arms up)
KOALA BEAR
(during “K” week)
Koala bear, koala bear, turn around,
Koala bear, koala bear, touch the ground.
Koala bear, koala bear, dance on your toes.
Koala bear, koala bear, touch your nose.
Koala bear, koala bear, give a little clap.
Koala bear, koala bear, take a nap.
(make actions as recited)
WITH MY FAMILY
(sung to the tune “Muffin Man”)
Tell me what you like to do,
Like to do, like to do.
Tell me what you like to do
With your family!
