"We Are Skyway!  Do What's Right!"

Skyway Elementary is located in the shadows of Cheyenne Mountain, in the southwest part of Colorado Springs, Colorado.  Cheyenne Mountain is home to NORAD and the world-famous Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. The historic Broadmoor Hotel is also nearby.

We have 300 students in Kindergarten through 6th grades, with two classrooms at each grade level.  Our daily schedule is from 8:00am - 3:00pm.  Our Kindergarten is split into two half-day sessions, the first beginning at 8:00am and ending at 11:10, and the second session beginning at 11:50, and ending at 3:00pm.  We ask that students not be dropped off at school before 7:50am, as that is when we have formal supervision on the playground.  Students should also be picked up by 3:10pm.  Cheyenne Mountain School District does not provide bus service.

Character3107_25349_0.gif?src=.PNGEducation
Skyway staff believe that CHARACTER is the foundation that everything else is built upon.  We emphasize character trait words every month.  September is "Respect," October is "Responsibility," November is "Caring/Kindness," December is "Teamwork," January is "Manners," February is "Fairness," March is "Helpful," April is "Trustworthiness" and May is "Citizenship."  We recognize students for their efforts in practicing these character traits by catching them being good.  Students who are caught practicing these traits receive "Comet Blue Slips" for positive behaviors.  We also recognize students through our Shining Star Program.  Each month, two students from each class are recognized for their citizenship behaviors and attitudes.  These students receive a certificate, a pencil, a piece of candy and a letter home to their parents to congratulate them as well.  They also get to have their picture and a short profile displayed in the front office during the month of their recognition.

Breakfast3107_25412_1.gif?src=.PNGLunch
We serve both breakfast and lunch every day to our 1st through 6th grades.  Breakfast is served from 7:40 - 8:00am.  1st through 3rd grades have a 35 minute staggered lunch period between 11:20 and 12:05.  4th through 6th grades also have a 35 minute lunch period from 11:50 - 12:25.
Recess3107_25434_2.gif?src=.PNGPlaytime
1st through 4th grades have three recesses per day.  They are scheduled from 9:45-10:00am, lunch recess and from 1:45-2:00pm.  5th and 6th grades have recess at lunch time and again from 1:45-2:00pm.  Students are allowed to bring snacks for the morning recess, and can have water bottles in the classrooms.

Extracurricular3107_25450_3.gif?src=.PNG  Activities
Students will enjoy participating in P.E., Music, Art and/or Spanish every other day.  We also have a band program for our 4th, 5th and 6th grades.  Cheyenne Mountain School District also has an organized intramural program for 5th and 6th grades.  We compete in boys' basketball and team handball, and girls' basketball and volleyball.  The students compete against other elementary schools in the district. The focus of the Intramural Program is to teach skills and learn sportsmanship.

Breakfast of91507_23641_1.gif?src=.PNGChampions

Skyway believes that academic success is vital in today's world.  We promote student achievement with the Breakfast of Champions program.  Each quarter, any 4th, 5th and/or 6th grade student who earns a 3.75 Grade Point Average receives an academic medal and a certificate.  They receive these at a breakfast celebration, and their parents and siblings are invited to help recognize their accomplishment.
