I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you. My name is Landra Decker, and I will be the new music teacher at Skyway.
While growing up in Valentine Nebraska, I decided that I was going to be a teacher. I can remember making this decision when I was in fourth grade. Our classroom was a wonderful place that was filled with laughter. Mrs. Haun, our teacher, made each of us feel special. I decided that I wanted to be just like her.
I attended Chadron State College where I earned a major in elementary education, an endorsement in music and a minor in art. My teaching career began in Goodland, Kansas where I taught second grade for ten years. Then I got married and moved to Junction City, Kansas. I taught music for three and a half years. Seven years ago we moved to Colorado Springs to be closer to my husband's parents. I taught music at Evans Elementary for six of those years.
Last year I got to stay home with our daughter, Noelle. She will be attending kindergarten this year at Gold Camp. We are both very excited to be in the Cheyenne Mountain School District.
