Safety and Emergency Procedures

We practice Fire Drills, Lockdown Drills and Evacuation Drills throughout the school year.  Each classroom teacher has a paper for the families' plans in case of an emergency.  If a true fire or need for evacuation occurs, we have very specific procedures staff follow to safely evacuate students.  They exit the classroom exterior doors and walk immediately to the border of the school grounds.  If need be, we will evacuate the students to Jenkins Park, just three blocks from the school.  In case of inclement weather, we evacuate the students and staff to the Junior High School Cafetorium.  In either case, we will utilize all available land-line and cell phones to call parents to pick up their children at the specified location.

In the case of an emergency lockdown situation, we will immediately do whatever we can to protect all students and staff from any harm.  During a lockdown procedure, we will lock all exterior and interior doors with the students and staff safely in the classrooms.  We have a very specific procedure to indicate if there is a classroom with a dangerous situation inside.  Emergency personnel will be notified and we will follow their directives.
